The mistake that could make your at home skin treatment ineffective

Did you know that the order you put your skin products on each day influences their effectiveness?

You should apply any treatment specific serums, gels or creams after the skin has been cleaned, and before moisturizer.

After you wash your face, apply your anti-aging or acne products. After you give your skin 15 minutes to let the medications sink in, top off with your daily moisturizer. Remember to use a moisturizer with SPF, since most treatment products increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun.

It’s okay to use a variety of products to treat combination skin—but make sure you understand the effects of each product and pay attention to how your skin reacts to each treatment. As a general rule for sensitive skin, stick to using only one product per patch of skin. For example, use a spot treatment nightly for breakouts on your T zone, and a dark spot treatment reducer for discoloration on your cheeks. Too many products can be too much for sensitive skin to handle, and could lead to redness or peeling.

Something else to bear in mind is that it takes several weeks to see the results of most topical skin treatments, so make sure you use each product long enough to see results!
